This bright, original painting by Chantal Poulin features the vineyards of Canada’s first estate winery, Inniskillin.
The winery, which is located only 5 minutes from The Cannery, is internationally renowned for its award-winning wines and for its pioneering role in establishing the Canadian wine industry. On July 31, 1975 its founders made history when they were given the first winery license in Canada since Prohibition.
The Cannery houses a collection of local landscapes by the Québec artist Poulin that depict the vineyards and terrain that surrounds Niagara-on-the-Lake.
Poulin and her husband, Eric Durocher, settled in Niagara-on-the-Lake and opened a gallery in a 19th century Georgian manor on the scenic Niagara River Parkway. It is during this time that Poulin created the pieces that hang on these walls.
Poulin’s impressionist landscapes launched her career 1978. She’s since shifted to expressionist still life’s and total abstraction. Durocher has since left Niagara-on-the-Lake and now resides in Costa Rica.
