Magnetawan was a favoured location for the Group of Seven artists. The Canadian group often travelled to the location by train in the early 1900s. The incredible scenery of its river is on display in this piece from A.J. Casson simply titled, Magnetawan.

Magnetawan is a township in the Almaguin Highlands region of the Parry Sound District in Ontario, Canada. One of Casson’s most recognized paintings depicts the townships Anglican Church.

Casson is best known for his depictions of landscapes, forests and farms of southern Ontario, and for being the youngest member of the Group of Seven. His art distills Ontario's farmland and forests into highly finished, carefully composed designs, with a stillness that sometimes seems ominous. (Source, Group of Seven).

In 1979, Casson was made an Officer of the Order of Canada.
