Château de Crazannes

by: Jean Claude Roy

Château de Crazannes is an original painting from Jean Claude Roy (J C Roy). Château de Crazannes is a historical monument and one of the oldest castles in Charente-Maritime, a commune in the South of France. It’s former owner, the Count of Caracas inspired the Master of Puss in Boots, in the Puss and Boots tale.

In Prince of Wales’ collection of paintings from J C Roy you may notice that the sun always makes an appearance in the landscape. According to his own website’s biography, “Since the late 1980’s a characteristic of his landscapes has been the presence of the sun; after staring at the sun, a black spot in front of his eyes was transformed into the sun on his canvas; he found that this added light to the landscape below, and it has now become an important part of the composition of each work.”

J C Roy is an accomplished landscape painter who divides his time between France and Newfoundland. He describes his style as ‘expressionist-colourist’ and works most frequently in oils.
