LAURETIAN HILLSIDE #2
by: Bill Franks
Location: Behind Front Desk
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Country: Canada
Laurentian Hillside #2 is an original piece by Canadian artist, Bill Franks. The piece highlights the beauty of the Laurentians, a region north of Montreal with exceptional landscapes of unspoilt nature.
The area takes its name from the Laurentian Mountains which run down the regions northern side, and are a part of the great Canadian Shield, which covers most of Quebec north of the St. Lawrence River.
According to Franks’ website his, “painting experience has taken him from one coast of Canada to the other, he strives to present the rhythm, pattern, design and colour of the changing landscape of Canada.”
“He started his painting career as a boy rowing A.Y. Jackson (a member of the Group of Seven) around the waters of Georgian Bay. He was influenced by Jackson and started an oil painting career “en plein air”. Jackson taught him how to make a sketch box and introduced him to the basics of colour.”
