YOOKO

by: Walasse Ting

Location: 2nd Floor Landing

Medium: Acrylic on Rice Paper

Country: China/USA

YOOKO from artist Walasse Ting stands out from the other works in the ‘Cat Collection’ noticeably for its lack of colour. This muted palette represents the plain black abstract aesthetic used in Ting’s earlier work.

Walasse Ting was a Chinese-American painter, graphic artist, sculptor and poet. Ting’s unforgettable paintings “fuse dancing brushstrokes with vivacious neon colours. His subjects are joyful: parrots, flowers, cats and beautiful women in bright pinks, oranges, blues and greens.” (Source: Catto Gallery)

Ting is an internationally renowned artist whose work can be found in permanent international collections such as the Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Tate Modern Museum in London, Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Hong Kong Museum of Art.

More of Ting’s works can be found throughout the hotel and at our sister hotels, Prince of Wales and Pillar and Post.
