North Channel by Canadian artist A.J. Casson depicts a landscape with a narrow, rippled body of water in the foreground and a steeply inclined rocky shoreline studded with trees. This scene is typical of the Northern Ontario landscape. The piece was painted using water colours by Casson in 1948.

Casson is best known for his depictions of landscapes, forests and farms of southern Ontario, and for being the youngest member of the Group of Seven. His art distills Ontario's farmland and forests into highly finished, carefully composed designs, with a stillness that sometimes seems ominous. (Source, Group of Seven).

In 1979, Casson was made an Officer of the Order of Canada.
